Dog Laws

New laws come into effect on 13 May 2014.  Every dog owner should be aware of what it means to them personally.  Of particular note is that owners can now be prosecuted under the Dangerous Dogs Act if an incident occurs on private property.  A dog does not have to bite to be deemed dangerous.

My recommendation is that your dogs are taught to enjoy spending time in their crates.  Teach them the skills and you have a place to put your dog if needs be, where he can relax in peace and cause no harm to visitors.  This is particularly important if you have children visiting.  For teaching your dog the skills he needs please see A Place of my Own blog.

The article below front he National Animal Welfare Trust outlines the main changes to the Dangerous Dogs Act.  Please read it because it is relevant to you.
